“The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of”

Sir David Attenborough, Patron of World Land Trust

If you’re not already aware, we’re celebrating 30 years of Discover Adventure. What a milestone! That‘s three decades of taking our participants to the most beautiful and exciting destinations worldwide, raising millions of pounds for amazing causes. There’s been some ups and downs along the way (to say the least!), but we’re still here, and we’ve got our sights set on the future.

The world is a very different place from when we started operating 30 years ago, and we wanted to support in conserving our beautiful planet for 30 more years to come. That’s why we’re pleased to announce our support of World Land Trust’s Buy an Acre programme that works with local partners around the world to safeguard and connect habitats for wildlife.

And what better way to represent our 30th birthday than to protect 30 acres of land and its wildlife?

World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats, and they’re on a mission to help people across the world protect and restore their land to safeguard biodiversity and climate. And we want to be part of that mission! Through their work with a trusted global network of partner organisations, WLT fund the creation of reserves and provides permanent protection of habitats and wildlife, whilst engaging support and commitment among the local community.

We are supporting the Buy an Acre programme by purchasing 30 acres of land to represent the 30 years we’ve been in operation. The programme to date has helped WLT fund the protection of 2,835,984 acres of habitat around the world, with current projects including the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and Dakatcha Woodland in Kenya. For every donation, an WLT’s overseas partner is able to purchase an area of habitat and its wildlife, helping to combat wildlife loss, one of the greatest threats facing wildlife worldwide.

One of the core beliefs of WLT is that land should be owned by the local people who know the land, the threats and the wildlife best. Buying the land is the first crucial step, as once it is in ownership of the partners it cannot be purchased by other land owners who may want to clear the habitat for cattle ranching or agriculture. Not only does the purchasing of land protect vital habitats and the wildlife that reside in them, the protection of well-established primary forests acts to store harmful carbon dioxide as well as actively removing carbon from the atmosphere.

With more and more of our planet at risk, we want to be part of its protection. We aim to take people on trips of a lifetime for another 30 years and we can only do this if we look after the world we’ve been given.

Alongside making this one-off donation, when you book a trip with us, you’ll have the option to support WLT so you too can be part of the mission!
