Aitch: Don’t Be Afraid – A Documentary That Will Stay With You Long After the Credits Roll

Written by Jess Pitman | 24-Jul-2026 10:53:24

Our brilliant leader Vic and his lovely partner Zara (a Discover Adventure veteran of ten challenges and counting!), who's climbed Kilimanjaro herself, were at the London premiere of Aitch: Don't Be Afraid last night. On her way home, she wrote this. We're even more excited to see the film now! It lands on Netflix on Sunday.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the premiere of Don’t Be Afraid in Mayfair, London – a powerful and deeply moving documentary that follows award-winning rapper Aitch and his friends & family as they take on one of the world's greatest physical and emotional challenges: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in support of the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Having climbed Kilimanjaro myself over a decade ago, I swore I would never do it again. Yet, within minutes of watching this film, I found myself remembering exactly why people return to that mountain. Not because it is easy, but because it changes you.

Released on Netflix this Sunday, Don’t Be Afraid is far more than a story about reaching the summit of Africa’s highest peak. It is a story about courage, love, resilience and the extraordinary strength of the human spirit. Through breathtaking cinematography and raw, honest storytelling, the documentary captures the personal battles, fears and motivations that drive each member of the team upwards, one step at a time.

At the heart of the film is Aitch's touching relationship with his sister Grace, affectionately known as "Big G". Their bond becomes the emotional anchor of the journey, reminding us why challenges like this matter and how powerful it can be when we use our platforms to create hope and opportunity for others.

The film takes viewers through lush rainforests, towering lava formations, barren volcanic landscapes and glaciers that seem to touch the sky. Along the way, spectacular sunrises and sunsets provide moments of beauty and reflection, but it is the human stories that truly take your breath away.

Don’t Be Afraid doesn't shy away from the realities of standing 5,895 metres above sea level. It captures the exhaustion, the doubt and the pain. But equally, it captures something far greater: determination, friendship and the belief that we are capable of more than we ever imagined.

There are moments that will bring tears to your eyes. Moments that will leave you speechless. And moments that will send a shiver down your spine as you witness ordinary people achieving something extraordinary. In a world that can often feel weighed down by negativity, this documentary is a powerful reminder that hope still exists, that kindness matters, and that no mountain—literal or metaphorical—is insurmountable.

Above all, Don’t Be Afraid leaves you with one enduring message: fear may always be present, but it does not have to define us.

This is not just a documentary about climbing a mountain. It is a documentary about overcoming life's challenges, believing in yourself and finding purpose in helping others.

When it lands on Netflix this Sunday, make sure it's at the top of your watch list. You won't just watch this story—you'll feel it.

Zara, Discover Adventure ‘veteran’ ten trips and counting.

Discover Adventure Leader, Vic at the premiere.

Zara's right about one thing above everything else: this isn't really a film about a mountain. It's about what happens when people decide fear doesn't get the final word, and that's a philosophy we see play out on almost every trip we run, camera crew or not.

We'll be watching Aitch: Don't Be Afraid with the rest of the DA team this Sunday. If it moves you half as much as it moved Zara, we'd say that's a good use of an evening.
